The Influences of Care for the Aged, Relation with the Elderly and Role Ambiguity on Professionalism of Workers in Nursing Homes

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate factors affecting the professionalism of workers taking care of elders in Nursing home. Methods: 201 workers who are engaged in caring for the elderly at Nursing home in B-Metropolitan city answered the questionnaires about professionalism, skill of elder care, relationship between elders and role ambiguity of workers. Results: The professionalism of workers was significantly correlated to skill of elder care, relationship between elder and workers, role ambiguity (p<.01). The skill of elder`s care, relationship between elders and role ambiguity were statistically significant predictors of workers`` professionalism. The factors accounted for 42% of variance in the professionalism of workers. Conclusion: In oder to enhance the professionalism of workers, the workers engaged in caring for the elderly should be reinforce the program of systemic education related to improve relationship between elders, elder``s care and given clearly role.
